Resumen
This work aims to raise awareness and inform about AIDS, a disease that has always
been characterized by the stigma surrounding it, preventing people from understanding and
accepting the consequences and experiences of living with this virus.
The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) weakens the immune system,
compromising it until it causes infections and other viruses that can become fatal. In fact,
this disease is considered a pandemic. Many conditions are related to this initial infection, the
most well-known being Kaposi's sarcoma and pneumonia.
Not only that, this work aims to provide a deeper understanding of this disease,
emphasizing its modes of transmission, preventive measures that can be taken, and related
treatments.
Other important factors explained throughout the project include the differences
between AIDS and HIV, how they are related, the origin of the condition, and the tests that
can be done to determine if one has the infection.
Additionally, the work includes expert opinions on the topic, a public survey to assess
social knowledge and beliefs about the virus, and a timeline highlighting the most important
events and developments over the years.
Finally, one of the key aspects of this work is the effort to eliminate prejudices and
taboos surrounding not only AIDS but all sexually transmitted diseases, as these stigmas
make their treatment and care more difficult.
