SIDA STUDI, was set up in Barcelona in 1987 to work towards reducing the spread of HIV and AIDS and to minimize the impact of the virus on individuals and society as a mark of respect to human rights.

Objectives

• To study in depth the diverse medical, psychological, legal and social repercussions of HIV and AIDS. .
• To compile written and audiovisual documentation of investigations, initiatives and interventions in the fields of HIV and AIDS prevention and awareness.
• To facilitate the distribution of information in as many fields as possible and undertake projects with the participation of groups and individuals interested in this area of health.
• To defend the rights of people with HIV and AIDS, bearing in mind the responsibility of both citizens and public administration in the acts of welcoming, understanding and assisting these people, insisting on zero tolerance of discrimination and marginalization of these people.
• To establish contact and to collaborate with people, associations and organizations of Catalonia, Spain, Europe and world wide, acting in the psychosocial field of HIV and AIDS.

• The association was registered with the Registre d'Associacions de la Generalitat de Catalunya (no. 9300, 22 October, 1987).
• Declared as a private association of social initiative (no. E00080) by the Direcció General de Serveis Socials de la Generalitat de Catalunya (29 April, 1988).
• The association was registered with the Registro de Asociaciones del Ministerio del Interior del Estado Español. (no. 75,803, 11 April, 1991). 
• Recognised by the Direcció General de la Juventud Generalitat de Cataluña as an organisation offering services to youth (no. 00-000-01201).
• Recognised by the Ministerio de Hacienda (Ministry of Treasury and Finance) as an organisation of a social character (14 February, 1992). 
• Declared as a beneficial association to the public by the Ministerio del Interior (the Ministry of the Interior) 16 November, 1997
